We’ve all had good days and bad days when it comes to our skin. ¬†Between hormones, hard water and stress, sometimes it’s hard to know what’s causing all the ruckus. ¬†But there are definitely some things that you can indulge in every day, a little bit at a time, to help your skin on it’s way to being the best!

7. Drink Plenty of Water ( & Tea!) / Avoid Caffeine 

Want clear skin and a face you’re proud of as well as natural energy? ¬†In order for the skin to protect our bodies from UV radiation, microorganisms and toxic agents, it must be kept adequately hydrated. Hydration will allow skin to remain flexible, youthful and elastic.¬† If skin is broken, environmental factors and free radicals can damage our bodies and cause exacerbated water loss, feeding a cyclical pattern of more damage due to further dehydration.

Tip:¬†¬†Tea is an amazing, delicious way to get a bunch of water in throughout the day! ¬†Replace your Coffee in the morning with some Naturally Energizing Tea and you’ll see a difference immediately!

6. Smoothie Life 

Wanna drink your way to clear skin?¬† Try incorporating a smoothie (or 2 or 3!) into your daily routine.¬† Rich, green, chocolate, fruity, delicious, flexible, smoothies can pack protein, omega-3’s and detoxing agents that help your body restore it’s natural balance!

5. Sunshine

Despite the health scares about skin cancer, a healthy dose of sun is good not only for our moods, but for our skin!¬† The sunlight kills microbes. That’s why it is important to put out in the sun carpets and blankets that cannot be washed regularly. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity.¬† A moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. ¬†Sun rays are also proven to strengthen the immune system.

Tip: 1 hour in the morning or early afternoon (when sun is less strong) of reading outside!  Every day!

4. Proper Makeup Removal

Men, this may or may not apply to you! ūüėČ

I know it’s tempting to take a bunch selfies when you’re all dolled up (guilty as charged!) but the MOMENT you step in the door from an engagement, it’s time to take that stuff off your beautiful face!

If you wear makeup, at one point or another, you’ve probably gone to sleep with it on. Whether you forgot you were wearing it or you were just too tired to bother removing it, it happens. The important thing is to make sure it doesn’t become a habit.¬† Leaving makeup on clogs pores, which messes up our sebum production, which is important for balanced skin!

Tip: Jojoba oil is my favorite makeup remover, but Yes To Carrots! also makes an amazing one.

3. Clay Masks

Doing weekly or even daily (depending on your skin’s sensitivity) clay masks to detoxify, purify and cleanse your skin is so, so important to maintain a glowy complexion!

2. Omega’s

Getting all of your Omega’s in – whether in the form of fish, vitamins or supplements – is one of the key steps in clear, healthy skin!¬† Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, help build and restore cells and aids in cell regrowth. ¬†Omega 3 fatty acids maintain the structure and fluidity of the cell membrane making sure nutrients enter the cell and waste products are removed. -If you’re worried about toxins in fish, remember the FDA says up to 12 ounces a week is fine. They recommend a variety of fish.

Tip: Adding salmon, tuna or mackerel to your diet is an easy way to get more Omegas!  Eating fish in the morning, such as Lox, is also easily beneficial!  As well as clearing your skin, adding fish to your diet can also help reduce the inflammation associated with psoriasis and even eczema.

1. Practice Self Confidence (in the Nude)

I have an amazing secret! ¬†Are you ready? ¬†Lean in real close. ¬†It’s a doozy! ¬†Ready? ¬†Really?! ¬†You sure? ¬†Okay. . .

Nobody’s perfect!

That’s right. ¬†Nobody.

Not even Jennifer Lawrence (. . . she comes pretty close, though.)

The extent to which a person feels the need to alter her face can be as simple as wearing lipstick or as complex as undergoing plastic surgery. Most women can attest that she knows at least one friend who won’t go ANYWHERE “without her face on”.¬† But this speaks to a deeper level of insecurity that – whether from society, media or culture – is very real.¬† The only way to fight this is by practicing the opposite – accepting that we are beautiful just the way we are, and it’s perfectly acceptable to go out with little or (gasp!) no makeup on. ¬†That’s right. ¬†In the nude.

Believing that you are Naturally Beautiful is the first and most important step to feeling Beautiful.

Tip: If you’re shy about this, start by going somewhere you’re not too likely to run into anyone, but somewhere you’re still inclined to be friendly, like the grocery store, park or on a walk with a good friend.¬† I promise you that – fully “made up” face or not – people will still be wonderful to you and treat you just as nicely (in fact, sometimes way more real) than if you were all dolled up! ¬† It feels really good to be accepted for just what you look like! Practice makes perfect, and once you’ve practiced throwing insecurities out the window enough, you won’t be so reliant on always having to be “looking your best” to feel good!
